6 Reasons Your Curls Are Frizzy

It can be really frustrating when you can’t figure out why your curls keep turning out frizzy. But before you swear off wash and go’s all together, we’ve got 8 reasons why you might be experiencing some trouble.

1. You’re Not Using Products With Enough Hold

Conditioners and moisturizing butters are super important to a good wash and go, but you’re not gonna get the definition you’re looking for without a good product that will offer some hold. This can come in the form of a styling gel or mousse. We recommend our SET Curl Defining Mousse. After you’ve layered all the necessary moisturizers, you can smooth this curl defining mousse into your curls for a flexible hold that won’t create a hard cast when your hair is dry.

2. You’re Not Using Enough Water When Styling

This one may be a more elusive tip, but when you think about it, it’s really intuitive. When you try to put natural hair products on hair that is dry or damp, it doesn’t really get applied smoothly or evenly distributed. When you use an appropriate amount of water, you are more able to evenly distribute the products. This helps seal your cuticles, making for a more shiny, less frizzy final result. We recommend keeping a spray bottle nearby while layering your products for your wash and go.

3. You’re Not Drying Properly

Speaking of drying, you could be drying your hair improperly and that could be another reason why your curls keep turning out frizzy. When it comes to a defined wash and go, hooded dryers or diffusers are the way to go. Air drying will likely result in a more frizzy style, and a handheld dryer without a diffuser will blow too harshly and will disrupt your curl formation. This will also cause frizziness.

4. You’re Touching Your Hair Before It’s Dry

More on the drying process, it’s also extremely important that you do not touch your hair until it is completely dry. The reason for this is when you touch your wet hair, it causes your curls to be disrupted. This is what creates frizziness in your final product. Be sure to keep your hands out of your hair completely until you’ve completed whichever drying method you’ve chosen.

5. You’re Not Protecting Your Hair At Night

Okay, let’s say you’ve got your wash and go method down pact and that’s not the reason you keep ending up with frizzy curls. The culprit could be a lack of protection. It’s crucial that you protect your curls when you sleep. We recommend our satin bonnet. And if you need or want another option, you can also use our satin pillowcase

6. You’re Not Keeping Up With Your Trims

If you’re doing everything right and you’re still dealing with frizz, then you’re probably due for a trim. The two may seem unrelated, but really they couldn’t be more connected. When you have split ends and single strand knots throughout your hair, it’s impossible to create a sleek defined look because your damaged ends can not be sealed, no matter what products you use. We highly recommend seasonal trims from a professional stylist to make sure your ends stay healthy.
